This 60-credit program includes the University’s general education requirements (45 credits) along with 15 elective credits chosen from the arts, humanities, social or behavioral science fields, or in professional fields based upon these disciplines.

Designed for students who may be balancing changing priorities or reevaluating their academic timeline, this program recognizes the work you’ve already completed and helps you reach an important academic milestone. Earning an associate’s degree provides a formal credential that can strengthen your résumé, support career opportunities, and keep future educational options open — whether that includes continuing toward a bachelor’s degree or exploring new directions.

Courses and Curriculum

To earn the Associate of Arts in General Studies, students must complete 60 total credits and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Degree Requirements

  Degree Progress: Enrolled students can review program requirements and track progress toward degree completion using the university’s degree audit and advising tool, .

Certificates in Academic Foundations, Critical and Scientific Reasoning, and Human Creativity and Diversity, are aligned with the University’s general education requirements. Completion of all three certificates, in combination with additional elective coursework, may be applied toward the Associate of Arts in General Studies.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Develop effective and appropriate written and oral communication, evidence-based arguments, and accurate and appropriate quantitative reasoning.
  2. Evaluate the diversity of human experience.
  3. Understand what is entailed in responsible citizenship.
  4. Widen their understanding of the natural world and modern technologies.
  5. Explore artistic and literary disciplines.
